Spurned, Youth sets 18 yr Old Girl Ablaze in Rajasthan

Jaipur, September 24

An 18-year-old girl was ‘set ablaze’ by her alleged boyfriend in Banswara district’s Isarwala village on Saturday night.

The girl, who used to work in a cloth mill as a dailywager, received 70 per cent burns besides other injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital in Udaipur, investigating officer of Sadar Thana, Yohan Kumar told The Tribune on Sunday.

The suspect was reportedly friends with the girl and wanted to marry her, said the IO who recorded the victim's statement, adding he stopped her and beat her up while she was going to a shop in the village around 9 pm.
However, the victim was unable to recollect who poured inflammable liquid on her and set her afire.

The blaze was doused by villagers who called an ambulance and rushed her to Banswara district hospital, 18 km from the village.

After the first-aid, she was referred to Udaipur for better treatment. She received major burn injuries up to 70 per cent and is struggling for survival, the IO said.

A case under Sections 307, 341, 323 and 354 in IPC has been registered against the accused, Ravi, who was at large since last night.

The villagers stated that Ravi's father was also present when the incident occurred, the IO said, adding it could only be confirmed after quizzing the father-son duo.
